What is a STEMI time?
A STEMI (ST-elevation myocardial infarction) time is the time from the moment you arrive at the hospital emergency room with a heart attack to the time that blood flow to and from the heart is reestablished.
This streamlined process is integral in ensuring that patients survive a heart attack. The sooner that this blood flow is restored, the better the chances of avoiding serious damage and increasing the overall outcome.
The American Heart Association recommends that hospitals restore blood flow to the hearts of STEMI patients within 90 minutes to achieve better survival rates.
At Northside Hospital & Tampa Bay Heart Institute, we are pleased that our STEMI times are as low as 36 minutes, which is lower than the national benchmark of 90 minutes. Our Emergency Department, in conjunction with our cardiologists, work hard to ensure that your heart attack damages are as minimal as possible.
